Course Leader – MA International Journalism

In a distinguished 40-year career, Prof. Om Gupta has excelled in both the print and electronic media in various senior positions, as well as a top educationist in journalism. An author with 17 published books, his key jobs in media education include: Dean, Centre for Media Studies Academy; Dean, JIMS; Dean Rai University media programme, among others.

He covered international affairs for Times of India, Pioneer, Indian Express, PTI, India Today, and Onlooker from 1979 to 1997. He wrote a syndicated column ‘Diplomacy’ for more than dozen newspapers of India and abroad from 1989 to 1995. He published a monthly magazine ‘Indo-Latin American File subscribed by Ministry of External affairs from 1992 to 2002.

He travelled to Latin America, Europe and Africa with the then President of India, Shakar Dayal Sharma and the then Prime Minister P. V. Narsimharao in 1995 as a commentator on Indo-Latin American relations.
What gives Prof. Gupta a cutting edge in teaching is his bi-lingual competency in both English and Hindi. He was editor of Mid-day daily newspaper, editor of Caravan fortnightly magazine and a correspondent in India’s leading magazine, India Today. He was also editor of the Hindi daily newspaper, Kuber Times and the bureau chief of the Hindi daily newspaper Swatantra Bharat.

In the electronic media field, he headed Jain TV News. He was also a producer and director of popular Hindi TV serials, Puvaee and Hum Log.
Among Prof. Gupta’s books on advertising, mass communication, media and laws, anthology of editorials, interviews and columns are: G-15: Potential and Possibilities; An Indo-Latin American Perspective; Encyclopedia of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh (7 volumes); Encyclopedia of Journalism and Mass Communication (5 volumes); Manual of Professional Spanish Diplomacy; Media and Communication Research.
He has done his Ph.D & M.Phil is from the Jawaharlal Nehru University. His multi-faceted experience has proved to be great asset. Prof Gupta is Dean Writing, at the Asian School of Media Studies.
